March is Women’s History Month in Wichita Falls.

The 2026 theme, designated by the National Women’s History Alliance, is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.” This theme expands our understanding of sustainability beyond environmental issues. It includes financial stability, community resilience, leadership succession, and intergenerational equity.

In Wichita Falls, women are strengthening the systems that support our community. They lead in housing, business, healthcare, education, civic life, volunteerism, and the arts. They build institutions. They guide organizations. They mentor the next generation. They address today’s challenges while preparing our city for tomorrow.

Mayor Tim Short will present a Women’s History Month proclamation on Tuesday, March 3, during the Wichita Falls City Council meeting.

Women’s History Month is both recognition and action. We honor the women who have shaped Wichita Falls, and we affirm the women who are shaping its future.
