The Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture is pleased to announce a weeklong residency of the talented Texas Shakespeare Festival. The Kilgore College-based professional theatre company will tour across North Texas in November.
The company will offer a public workshop on November 9th in partnership with Backdoor Theatre, followed by a one-night-only public performance of Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits on Friday, November 10. Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits presents five of Shakespeare’s most famous scenes, along with narration, live music, and audience participation.
The Texas Shakespeare Festival’s Roadshow Tour brings abridged productions of Shakespeare into schools and communities throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The Roadshow performs with a Globe Theatre aesthetic, using acoustic instruments to create live music and sound effects from a seven-member acting company that plays all parts in the show. The company will provide free performances for high school students in the Region 9 Service Area.
“We are excited to bring this opportunity to residents of the North Texas region,” said Ann Arnold-Ogden, Executive Director for The Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture. “More than 1,000 area students will experience Shakespeare as it was meant to be seen. It’s one thing to read his timeless works in class – but seeing a live performance by professional actors is a truly special experience.”
In addition to the public events, the acting company will perform for area students in Graham, Vernon, and Wichita Falls over the course of the week-long residency.
The Texas Shakespeare Festival North Texas Roadshow is made possible in part by The Moody Foundation, The James N. McCoy Foundation, The Priddy Foundation, The Texas Commission on the Arts, United Supermarkets, and The City of Vernon Department of Tourism.
