The Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture, in collaboration with The Wichita Falls Ballet Theatre (WFBT), will present Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) in celebration of African American Heritage Month. The 3rd Annual WFBT Signature Series performances will take place at the MSU Fain Fine Arts Theatre on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 9 at 3:00 p.m. The performances are funded in part by the Texas Commission for the Arts and area foundations. Tickets are currently on sale at the MPEC box office and online at wfmpec.com.
Margie Johnson Reese, Executive Director of the Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture says, “This presentation of Dallas Black Dance Theatre gives our organization another chance to do what we do best – collaborate. It is a joy to see the poise and discipline that Mishic and Val Liberatore have nurtured in young people through their work. What better way to continue to motivate our young dancers than by giving them a chance to work with and see other great dancers?”
DBDT, the oldest, continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas, will perform along with dancers from WFBT during the Signature Series performances. This is the first time WFBT has partnered with a professional dance company.
WFBT Artistic Director Mishic Liberatore says, “Val and I are excited to present the world-premiere pieces we have choreographed for our company members. It is inspirational for our young artists that want to pursue a dance career to be able to connect with professional dancers. This performance will be significant for our dancers and our community. Audience members can expect a truly powerful performance.”
In addition to the public performances, DBDT will visit area schools and host a master class at the Wichita Falls Youth Ballet studio. Registration forms and more information about the master class is available online at www.wichitafallsballettheatre.org, as well as on the WFBT Facebook page.
