Stacey Barton, art teacher at Southern Hills Elementary School in Wichita Falls, is spearheading an innovative project and needs local artists to make it happen.

“Monsters Reimagined” invites artists from the community to adopt drawings of monsters created by second-grade students and transform them into unique pieces of art using their preferred medium and artistic style. By pairing students’ original drawings with the expertise of community artists, Barton hopes to instill confidence in her students and motivate them to pursue their artistic passions.

The project previously gained widespread attention, landing on the front page of Reddit in 2019. The positive response inspired her to expand the project and continue nurturing her students’ artistic talent. Selected artworks from the “Monsters Reimagined” project will be showcased alongside students’ original artwork at a special exhibition.

The deadline to complete and submit artwork is March 28th.

Local artists interested in participating are encouraged to email Stacey Barton at sbarton@wfisd.net to adopt a student’s drawing.
